How to Use Analytics to Improve Your Social Media Strategy

Posting consistently is great — but how do you know what’s actually working? That’s where your analytics come in.

When you review your data consistently, you can stop guessing and start making intentional decisions that grow your reach, engagement, and impact.

Each month, review which posts got the most:

  • Saves
  • Shares
  • Comments
  • Reach
  • Website clicks or conversions

These metrics show you what’s actually resonating. Look for patterns in the format, topic, or style of these posts.

Pro tip: Save your top posts in a “Best Of” folder so you can reference or repurpose them later.

Look at how your follower count changes month to month — but don’t stop there. Check:

  • Where your followers are coming from (hashtags? Reels? collaborations?)
  • Whether they align with your ideal client
  • Demographics: age, location, gender breakdowns

This helps you tailor content and messaging more effectively.

Your engagement rate is calculated by taking your total interactions (likes, comments, shares, saves) and dividing it by your follower count.

If it’s 2–3%, that’s solid for most small accounts. A lower rate may mean your content isn’t quite connecting — or you’re not targeting the right audience.

How many people are clicking your bio link? Booking a service? Buying a product? These are signs your content is doing its job: guiding people from interest to action.

Check:

  • Link-in-bio analytics (Linktree, Milkshake, etc.)
  • Website traffic sources
  • Promo post performance during launches or sales

Your Stories are prime real estate — and they give instant feedback. Track:

  • Views over time
  • Replies
  • Tap forward vs. tap back vs. exits
  • Which stickers perform best (polls, sliders, questions)

What to look for: Stories that make people reply or linger are gold. Use those as inspiration for future content.

  • Double down on what works: Make more of the content types that perform well
  • Drop what flops: Don’t waste time on formats or topics that consistently underperform
  • Test + adjust: Social media is always evolving. Try new things and use your data to refine them
  • Repost winners: Tweak and repost high-performing content every few months — your audience isn’t seeing everything!

✅ Top 3 posts of the month
✅ Story with the most replies/views
✅ Website or link-in-bio clicks
✅ Audience growth & follower insights
✅ Engagement rate trend
✅ Notes on what worked and what to try next

You don’t need to be glued to your numbers — but checking in once a month helps you work smarter, not harder. Your analytics are more than just metrics. They’re a mirror showing what your audience truly wants.
